The way the comic ties the story back into classic Doctor Doom lore in the back half is quite clever. There are a couple of ties where the pacing lags due to text dumps, and that is an issue the series has had almost since the beginning. Saladin Ahmed keeps the tone light and the plot flowing. It’s little more than a lampshading though, as they write it off with “infinite universes.” Perhaps things will be more thoroughly explained in a later issue. This is the first time in the series that a specific story is recreated with Marvel characters, and, to its credit, the characters acknowledge it. Upon escaping, the Exiles find themselves allied with two people resembling Black Cat and Doctor Strange.Įxiles #10 continues the book’s endearing trend of taking on classic genres with Marvel heroes and villains inserted into the setting. The Exiles won’t abandon Nocturne to this fate, but they have to retreat after Caliph Doom summons his Doom Bots. He also believes Nocturne to be Shahrazad and his wife from the tale. However, this is not the Doom they know this Doctor Doom is actually Caliph Doom and resembles one of the two principal characters from 1001 Nights folk tale. The Exiles and Nocturne find themselves at the mercy of Doom.
